Furniture Design: Ladybug Table

2024

As apart of a furniture design course I worked with Jason Dionisio and Alexane Malaval to design and create a flat-packable, modular piece of furniture. Beginning our work we went through several design iterations playing with simple shapes using the natural motions of animals to inform movement in the design. Settling on a ladybug utilizing the opening of its wings to allow for expansion of the able surface we spent our time working on the mechanisms to support these motions. The wings of the ladybug swing out and fall down exposing two sets of leaf inserts nested into the table. After scaling up we created one full scale model with a 23" closed diameter and two half scale models with 12" closed diameters.
